Day 1: Friendswood, TX to Oklahoma City, OK

First thing in the morning we dropped Hunter off at the kennel, and packed up the car (including the future Megan-o-Lantern). The week before we purchased a new car seat for Megan as she had just about out grown her infant car seat. Then we headed off to the Harris County Public Library where we early voted in the 2008 elections. There was a pretty long line (About an hour) as it was the first day of Early Voting in Texas, but we waited. Megan went with Daddy into the voting booth, and got to press the big red button to cast the vote. We checked out some books for the trip, and then we were off!

It was around 1:00 PM that we actually hit the road, and we managed to cover 485 in about 11.5 hours to make it to a LaQuinta Inn in Oklahoma City, OK. Along the way we saw the giant statue of Sam Houston, on the side of I-45. We of course made lots of stops along the way, including a rest area that had a brand new playground (which Megan was fast asleep for) and one which had a gravel path which Megan played in with her toy front loader. We had dinner at Sam’s Restaurant off I-45 which featured a buffet as well as item you could order off the Menu. Winston had a BBQ sandwich with Onion Rings, and Julie and Megan had the buffet.

As the sunset we were still shy of Dallas, but we pushed on. at 8:50 PM we crossed over into Oklahoma, the first time that Megan’s entered a new state by car at night. In Oklahoma City we filled up (10.569 gal) and gas was only $2.36/gal
